The Circle of Life

The house is filled with chirping again and we have six tiny chicks in an old rabbit cage in the living room. This is Rhode Island Red, three days old.

How cute is she? How soon will she go out where the coyotes are?

Have you named them? I recall Rhode Island Reds as being aggressive. They used to chase me when I was a teenager hanging out at the local stable.

Palm: We have two Rhode Island Reds — chatty cathy is one. We handle the birds every day and, of course, feed them. Hopefully that will win out over any agressive tendencies. anon: The birds will go outside after they lose their fuzz and get their feathers in; maybe 3-4 weeks. This time, though, we’ll keep the door shut on the chicken run so the coyotes don’t get them.
