Today it happened. All six of our hens laid eggs. The light green/blue eggs are from the Ameraucanas. The deep brown eggs are from our Rhode Island Reds. The tannish colored eggs (which are sometimes speckled) are from the Barred Rocks. They were the last to start laying.
Since New Year Day, we’ve averaged four eggs a day! We’re having quiche tonight.

Thank you Ann. The different colors are fun. You know our kids have been taking hard boiled eggs in their school lunch and say their friends think the different egg colors are “awesome.” Sara, it is near time to go on egg watch. It was 5 1/2 months (late November) to our first egg, which was greated with great celebration. Since then we’ve gathered anywhere from 1 to 5 eggs a day, until today of course when we got six.
