To mark America’s 250th anniversary of independence from England, we travelled north to the Central Coast for the Cayucos 4th of July parade and fireworks.

The Cayucos parade is a small town affair similar to the annual Sierra Madre parade we went to last year. A giant American Flag led the procession with a rousing rendition of our National Anthem.
To be sure, patriotism is expressed in many ways. But, proper respect for the National Anthem and Flag are always in order. The crowd stood as the Flag rolled by and the National Anthem was sung loudly with great cheers at the end.
Not sure the kid doing the wheelie was part of the official program but it made for a good photo.

The great thing about a small town parade is exactly that — it’s small town. Several veterans were cheered along the route. Here is a local WW II vet riding in a 1955 Ford Fairlane. Kids’ sports teams and local businesses were all well represented.

American presidents, old and new, were represented. George Washington was there along with Lincoln and Trump. President Lincoln read from his Gettysburg Address, which he delivered in 1863 — “Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent, a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal”

After the parade, the crowd filled Ocean Avenue with a bit of a rainbow overhead.

That night, we were back at the beach for fireworks off the pier. All in all, a great way to celebrate 250 years of American independence.
