History of the Famous Sierra Madre Villa Hotel – William Lauren Rhoades (ca 1939 Manuscript)
This manuscript was written by William Lauren Rhoades (1872–1949), the grandson of William F. Cogswell and son of hotel proprietor, William Porter Rhoades and Jenny Cogswell Rhoades. As a boy, the junior Rhoades lived at the Sierra Madre Villa Hotel. Rhoades’ manuscript provides first-hand insight into life at the old hotel. More about Mr. Rhoades is available in this post.
The California State Library holds a hard copy of the manuscript, which it dates to 1939. This digital edition was created from a privately scanned copy of the manuscript and is provided here to support education and research.
